Your Character Name Can be Reserved in Guild Wars 2
ArenaNet has officially announced all the current Guild Wars names will be reserved for the Guild Wars 2. Different from other MMOs, the character names are unique across the entire game in Guild Wars series. In original Guild War, character names all are made of two or more words, however, at the start of the Guild Wars 2 Headstart Access period, all the names will be restricted to one word. Due to there are 20 million two-word names in use by existing Guild Wars players, ArenaNet Team decided to reserve the current character names for their trusted players.
To preserve your character name from Guild Wars into Guild Wars 2, you have to log into Guild Wars sometime in 2012, you have to claim your names in Guild Wars 2 by launch day, and you can't secure Guild Wars 2's single names (as Guild Wars forces you to make two-word names). To claim your reserved name simply create your character anytime during the Headstart Access or on launch day, or by the time support tickets are resolved, and you are good to go. After that point any of the 20 million names which are unclaimed will be available for all players to pick from.
So if your character name is a one-word name, you should be ready to log in day one of the Headstart Access and create your character fast. If not, you should create it in Guild Wars now and then on launch day or before. If it is taken in Guild Wars already wait until a day or so after launch to see if it is freed up by a player who didn't want to keep the name.
So seize the time to create your character name now and when the Guild Wars 2 is released, just rush to make Guild Wars 2 gold.
